If you're considering leaving the traditional workforce to work for yourself, you’re in good company.

About a third of U.S. adults have a side hustle, according to Bankrate’s 2022 survey, with a growing percentage of them relying on that extra income to make ends meet. Research also shows many workers are thinking about trading traditional employment for entrepreneurship; in FreshBooks’ 2021 Self-Employment Report, 40% of respondents said they are at least somewhat likely to work for themselves within the next two years.

“People have had time to do some soul searching over the past few years,” said Kerry Hannon, a workplace futurist and author of the new book, "In Control at 50+: How to Succeed in the New World of Work." "The pandemic forced many of us to reevaluate our priorities and I think this inspired a lot of new entrepreneurs of all ages.”
